My real physical body has a clearly defined boundary - a finite edge where my skin covers my flesh and bones. However, my senses have variable boundaries that flex and change all the time. My thoughts can move out via my mouth and voice into another persons ears and mind and so can enter inside their physical body.
The physiological machinery of our bodies and senses is mind-blowingly powerful and complex. However on top of this ‘sensory-vehicle’ let’s add memories (previous thoughts and experiences stored in my mind)... and on top of that let’s add emotions... which can include mental projections of my current situation plus accumulated fears, disappointments, belief systems, and future desires, dreams and hopes.
Now try to make some sense of that conglomeration of personality and here we all are, each of us attempting to find our individual purpose for living, and all of it contained in this body-sensory-vehicle of my singular Life and yet interconnected to so many other lives... perhaps all life.
Seeking to understand this matrix of all life has always been my fascination.
Originally working with still photography, using film and experimental darkroom techniques, I have added the moving image, (film and video), sound and digital technologies and interactive software designs to my work since 2001 when I began making live responsive films for orchestra and dance. In 2005 I began to perform onstage myself as well.
I continue to experiment with new mediums. Innovation and experimentation are something that I find necessary, enjoyable and challenging.
