Having an interesting time learning how to run Linux on Mac laptop.
So far I am running Ubuntu (that's the name of the specific distribution/version of Linux) off a bootable CD... writing to temporary RAM. What this means (I think) is that when the laptop shuts down and reboots in Mac OS, there is no trace of the previous Linux activity.. which is interesting, methinks... ;)

This just in... from my collaborator/friend Rob Scharein;
"With the exception of the operating system itself, Mac OSX is just as open-source as Linux. Even Xcode is just a wrapper (albeit a very fancy one) over GNU/Linux compilers and libraries. Cocoa of course is not open source."
Many of the GNU/Linux open source softwares are available from:
MacPorts: http://www.macports.org/
Fink: http://www.finkproject.org/
Fun. Useful. Intriguing.
