(think of single frame image movies. Man Ray made his infamous first film as single frame photograms using salt crystals, thumb tacks and pins that he placed on the surface of a roll of 16mm film emulsion. He then briefly turned on a light (solarizations which he called 'Ray-o-grams). It was screened the following day at an event hosted by the Dada'ists who declared the end of Dada. There was riot in the cinema...
Also of course, the famous scene in the movie The Matrix, where time 'stands still' and circles the actor was shot using a complete ring of still cameras encircling the action, timed to all fire simultaneously. (Each black dot represents a still camera)
